16,000 hours! That’s the time your children spend in school from kindergarten through high school. They will graduate with a diploma and some kind of worldview. The diploma will help them get into college or get their first job, but the worldview they develop in those early years will determine every choice they make for next 60, 70 or 80 years. All their decisions about faith, marriage, character, relationships, career, personal habits and child-rearing will be shaped by the worldview formed during their early years of home and school. Will your child’s worldview be secular or sacred?
Educating our children is a sacred duty which God gives to every parent, making us responsible for training our children to become Godly adults (Malachi 2:15). We can homeschool them or outsource their education to others, but we cannot transfer the responsibility. God holds us accountable for ensuring that the children he loans us aretrained to know, obey and serve God. Jesus said, “when a student is fully trained, he will be like his teacher” (Luke 6:40). Therefore, parents must choose teachers, coaches and mentors with much more care than barbers, dentists or colleges. One can almost hear Jesus saying, “What have parents gained if their children’s hair looks good, their teeth are straight and they get a Harvard degree, but they lose their children’s souls?”
